Kosta Boda

Founded in 1742 in Kosta, Sweden.  Although a factory type setting, the product is still hand made.  From my view, there was 3-8 guys working at a station, and about 20 stations.  The first guy would gather, prepare the color, then hand the pipe off.  The next guy would do the final gathering, blow it out and pass the pipe off.  Then another would use a mold, shape it, and pass it off.  Then another would come along crack it off and put it in the annealer.  Pretty sweet system.
Goblets were being made at one station, the guy would gather, blow the bubble, using a mold.  Then he’d put the pipe on a self turning yolk and the bottom would heat up by this mini glory hole.  Then a guy would tap his foot and hydrolics would bring the pipe towards him where he’d pull the stem.  Then another guy would come and get it and put the foot on it.
There was a hotel, it was pretty amazing.  It was glass… glass everywhere.  I left feeling inspired.  There was a huge gift shop, I got myself a couple post cards and a sketch book.  The school looked pretty nice, the student work looked pretty nice.  Reminded me of Sheridan.  I bought myself a second from the Orrefors gift shop there at Kosta.  Its a bowl.  I liked it.
