Time is approaching

Why is it every year I feel like Christmas sneaks up on me and I feel panic stricken right about this time? My gifts are not made/bought, my laundry isn’t done, the studio has endless jobs to get done… and here we are looking at December 17! (tomorrow)
I refuse to feel anything negative, for Pete’s sake its Christmas! I made the decision to turn on my furnace last week and haven’t looked back yet.  The elements are working great, I am grateful for the time I spent sorting glass way back when I did  because I have taken this time to relax and make what I want in whichever color I feel.  I like doing stained glass, when I have an idea… I even enjoy making beads on the torch… but there is something about the hot shop that makes me feel alive.  A friend of mine told me once when an artist is in their studio creating, they are in meditation or prayer state.  I shrugged at her comment and never gave it much thought, but this week my head feels clear, my sketchbook is opened again, I sleep better, and my overall mood feels better.  So is it because I am back in the hot shop? Or is it because Christmas is approaching?
I have gone out a few times in hopes to shorten my Christmas to do list now and I am trying to shop local and buy handmade when I can… its a tough thing to do!The Mountain Ridge Tree Farm, not only is it locally owned and operated but has a great little gift shop too with yours truly Christmas decor, and other handmade gift ideas! For those down the island a bit, the Salish Sea Gallery has some of Tide Lines work in this gallery in Cowichan Bay, as well as other local island artists!  And the treats… Cupcakes! Twisted Sifters cupcakes have been a craving of mine for some time now… Duncan is where you can find these deadly treats!
As for Campbell River, the Pier Street Market is being held in the Maritime Heritage Center this Sunday… featuring some really talented artists/crafters! They are all local, and all handmade!  Plus, there is great food there and I’ll be working in the hot shop blowing production items both Saturday and Sunday!
Gift ideas at Tide Line? There is .925 Silver Jewellery, a variety of glass jewellery, wine stoppers, letter openers…. Coasters, sushi dishes, platters… Blown bowls, stemless wine glasses… Tidal Balls… Jelly Fish & Sea Stars… Beach Memories mounted in driftwood… stained glass Angels, Santa’s and Poinsettias…
Good Luck on your gift finding and enjoy your holidays! ~Toni.
